The Rainbow Connection is a unique setting where older, disabled and/or chronically ill animals come to live until that glorious day when they will pass on to the Rainbow Bridge. In today's society there are so many throw away pets that there are not enough homes for them all. Likewise there are so many older pets which when are found to have diabetes, epilepsy or other lifetime illnesses become disposable. These pets have lots of love to give and have much quality life left, but many people are not able, or do not want to have the responsibility of medications each day. These pets need places to come and to be allowed to live the rest of their lives. Many of these pets, when maitained on medication appear no different than other animals of their age. These pets many times just want and need love.
At the Rainbow Connection each dog or cat that is accepted is checked by a local vet to see what medications, if any, the animal needs to be on. Each animal is given its own bed, mind you they switch frequently, and from there becomes a part of the family. If the dog or cat chooses to be in a corner or closet, that is ok. The Rainbow Connection dogs have a separate yard, as not to get run over or played with too hard by the Little Bit O' Heaven Dogs. These dogs are taken out twice or three times a day. Some like to go out more and some don't like to go out at all.
The Rainbow Connection dogs, require special diets, and are fed separatly from the rest of the dogs.
Here are a few of the Rainbow Connection Stories:
This is Trixie. Trixie came from a local puppy mill. Trixie has diabetes and has had several strokes. Trixie is 90% blind in both eyes. Is she not photogenic??? Trixie might be mostly blind but her ears and eyes work, let anyone in the house have food and Trixie comes running. Trixie is about 12 years old, fat and sassy and gives lots of love.
This is Black Beauty, better know as BB. She is 15 years old. BB came from a kennel in Missouri. BB is sooo loving and loves to be held. BB loves her bed, is on a special diet because she has a sensative stomach. BB is a diabetic and is maintained on insulin.
This is Poogie. Poogie came to us from a family in Pennsylvania. Poogie is a insulin dependent dog. Poogie also has a very sensative stomach so is on a special diet. Poogie loves to play ball.
The Greyhound on the couch is Bayou. The Chihuahua laying with her is Mr. Wizard. Bayou came to us from Missouri Greyhound Rescue when she was turned in by her owner who was having to move. She has crippling arthritis and a low grade heart murmur. Bayou spends most of her days on the couch, the only time she gets off the couch is for food or to go outside. Bayou is on Remadil and Glyco-flex.Mr. Wizard was left in an apartment with a bag of food. No one knows how long he was left, however it was long enough for him to eat all the food, and to also eat most of the bag. Mr. Wizard was very very emaciated and was terrified of people. Mr. Wizard spends his days in Mommies arms or on the couch or bed. Mr. Wizard is just a bundle of neurosis, and unless the perfect home comes along will stay at the Rainbow Connection.
This is Suzie-Q. Suzie came to us from a Missouri Puppy Mill. She had served her days there and was retired. Suzie cannot see, and has diabetes. Suzie is on a special diet because she has a very sensative stomach. Suzie loves to play and be petted. Her favorite night is when she gets to sleep in the people bed.
This is Aggie, Aggie is a dog out of a puppy mill in Missouri. Aggie loves to sleep in things as you can see. Aggie is very docile and is almost non-existant except for when she wants to get in your lap.
