Pets & People Connection

This is an ongoing problem.

Although there is an unconfirmed report that Greenwood is no longer associated with Pets & People, you may yet be contacted by others in the Pets & People organization who are, or have been, working with Beverly Greenwood, including Greenwood's daughters,  Monique Huval (Duval) andDanielle (Huval?), and Greenwood's current partner, Gean H. Norton.

Brief Overview
A brief outline of the activities of Greenwood since becoming an integral part of  Pets & People
Little Bit O'Heaven & the Rainbow Connection's Merger with Pets & People
December, 1999 - In 2000, LBOH announces a merger with the women of Mississippi's PETS & PEOPLE (now operating out of Citronelle/Mobile, Alabama) as of late 1999.  Link with Pets & People reaffirmed  on June 20, 2000.

In essence, the incidents documented on this web site were perpetrated AFTER Beverly Greenwood's merger with Pets & People.

Selling ill & malnourished dogs at PetSmart
2000: Selling dogs at PetSmart with mange & ringworm under "Pets & People" banner.

On July 27, 2002, it was reported that "Beverly Greenwood of Pets & People" was seen selling dogs at a PetsMart in Baton Rouge, LA.   The reporter wrote of one dog he had seen, " .. The dog was filthy - long term filthy - and very poorly nourished."

Then on July 28, 2002, Greenwood gave her card to a director of the Capital Animal Welfare Society in Baton Rouge, asking if they had any dogs for her program.  She was turned away.

Stolen Siberian Husky in Hattiesburg - 2002
On January 31, 2002,  WDAM in Hattiesburg, MS, reported the theft of a children's  pet - a Siberian husky -  Ozzie - he was seen being "taken by two women: workers Senne had at her home from a Meridian based non-profit organization called Pets for People".  One of those women was Beverly Greenwood.  Greenwood took Ozzie to the Mobile, Alabama, Petsmart and  "adopted" him  out for a $55 fee.  If you have any information on this theft, please contact the Hattiesburg, MS, police department (1-601-544-7900).
Problems with Service Dogs
August, 2001: Reports of behavioral/training problems with Service Dogs provided by Pets & People to persons with disabilities
Foreclosure in Meridian, MS
December, 2001:  In late 2001, the property occupied by Beverly Greenwood (owned by Pat Gonser) in Meridian (6181 Hwy. 19 North) went into foreclosureGreenwood was forced to vacate.  Once again when forced to relocate, she surrendered the mixed breed dogs in her possession to legitimate rescue groups.  She  relocated to Bogue Chitto and immediately started collecting again.

4-H in Hattiesburg
2002: Flyers in the Hattiesburg area indicated that Greenwood was attempting to form a group "People "N Pets" with a 4-H group in Lincoln County.
Financial Disclosure requested from Pets & People
February-April, 2002:   According to regulations established for those with charitable organization status in the United States, we requested  financial information and the documentation regarding the charitable status of Pets & People from Pat Gonser and Mary Johnson as executives of Pets and People.  Many and ongoing requests were ignored until finally  the attached invoice was received from Pat Gonser.  In spite of her public avowals that if the invoice were paid, she would "send you the information you requested", one can see that this is not the case.  This was not a multiple choice request with Ms. Gonser being able to pick and choose what to send and since the information document on Ms. Gonser's invoice was not the information requested, and the fee charged exorbitant, the item was returned.
Discounted dogs
$45 dogs from Pets & People's Rainbow Connection - In February, 2002, the "adoption fee" was increased to $55 for a Siberian Husky stolen from a yard in Hattiesburg and sold in the parking lot of the PetSmart in Mobile, Alabama
Supporters
Some attempt to ignore these issues  - possibly feeling it's not their problem some seemingly caring animal rescue groups refuse to look at this issue and continue to support Pets & People - others, like legitimate  rescue groups in Florida and elsewhere, refuse to do business with any of the individuals/organizations concerned.
"Problem has never existed", says Gonser
Gonser says "The problem has never existed" and Mary Johnson attempts to whitewash the issues.  (Note: this "whitewash" page has undergone many changes over the past 5 years and Pets and People is now attempting to trivialize its association with Greenwood.)

Gonser: "The information is not true"
In 2002, in spite of eyewitness and newspaper accounts, Gonser condoned and defended Greenwood over the theft of the Siberian Huskey, Ozzie.
" A Response to the Internet Rumors"
Pets & People has come up with ingenious explanations refuting the information documented on these pages and feels that no proof is necessary - you should just believe them!   (Note - this page has undergone many changes over the years and has become quite "watered down".)
