What is an Animal Collector/Hoarder?

A COLLECTOR/HOARDER is " A person who amasses more animals than he/she can properly take care for. Such individuals generally fail to recognize - or refuse to acknowledge - when the animals in their custody become victims of gross neglect..."

OVERVIEW

Some of this material dates from early 1999 documenting Beverly Greenwood's history as an animal collector & hoarder.  This is an ongoing problem - until the authorities acknowledge and deal with this, Beverly Greenwood and her accomplices will not stop.

When the Muffin Pet Diabetes Group  placed two poodles - Poogie and Albert - with Little Bit O'Heaven and the Rainbow Connection in Ovett, Mississippi, in the spring of 1999, no one could possibly have imagined the trail of lies and deceit that would encompass several States, several outwardly respectable groups, and would escalate over the next six years and beyond.  The question "where are they?' has never been answered - instead, a tangled web has emerged, bringing with it more unanswered questions and more concerns being voiced by the legitimate rescue community as collecting/hoarding and allegations of animal abuse and neglect escalate.

Since March, 1999, Greenwood has lived in at least 4 areas of Mississippi - Ovett, Meridian, Bogue Chitto and now Ruth.  While we don't yet know the circumstances of her move from Bogue Chitto to Ruth, in both Ovett and Meridian when circumstances forced her to move on, she dumped her large collection of dogs into shelters (where most had to be euthanized for health reasons) and started collecting again when she relocated.  There are reports she has had upwards of 50+ dogs at one time.  In Ruth, she is now collecting horses.

Beverly Greenwood & Marci Chatfield were a couple who preyed on the helpless - Marci Chatfield "skedaddled" from Ovett as the Board of Health descended and has disappeared but Beverly Greenwood continues the cycle of neglect and abuse.  She is a collector in it's worst form - refusing to admit her problem, claiming she is "doing God's work" - all the while helpless animals suffer and die at her hands. 

In June, 2004,  Greenwood left Bogue Chitto and relocated to Ruth, Mississippi, with Jean (Gean) H. Norton.  Along with Norton, Greenwood's daughters (Danielle and Monique) are assisting her in her collecting under the guise of rescue as "Choctaw Ridge Farms Rescue"


Throughout the known period November, 1999, to early 2005, Greenwood was an acknolwedged associate of Pets and People: Companions in Therapy and Service" of Citronelle, Alabama.

Over time she has been referred to as being on its Board of Directors, its representative, volunteer, administrative volunteer, kennel manager & trainer, junior volunteer adult liaison, and rescue coordinator, among others.

However, in March, 2005, an unsubstantiated report was received that Greenwood was no longer associated with Pets and People.Pets and People is busy trying to erase and rewrite its sordid history with her.

Pat Gonser & Mary Johnsonof "Pets and People"  continued for over 5 years, in the face of overwhelming evidence, to defend and condone the shameful activities of Greenwood (Huval), e.g.: "This women does a wonderful job of maintaining both our rescue facility and our animal hospice."

Greenwood may or may not now be associated with Pets & People, however, remains on their web site: 

    "Beverly Greenwood, the Pets and People representative" - from an article by SARAH HART World Staff Writer, in Tulsa World (Final Home Edition), 06/25/2003.  (We were asked by the family involved to remove this link.)

    "Beverly Greenwood is the Pets and People: Companions in Therapy & Service kennel manager and trainer", and "Bev also serves as the Junior Volunteer Adult Liaison"
    In  earlier versions of  Pets & People's "response.html", reference is made to, "Dr. Gonser, myself, Beverly Greenwood, and other members of our Board of Directors", and "Bev Greenwood remains on the pets and people board...",  however, on their current "Response to the Internet Rumors" Greenwood has been downgraded to a "volunteer". 



Legitimate rescue groups place the welfare of the animals in their care above all other considerations.  In the interest of the helpless, don't take chances -  please do not turn animals over to anyone connected with these individuals!
